New Dover TCP/IP Link
Impatex has installed the very first TCP/IP link to Dover's 'Clearway' system at Frans Maas in Lord Warden House, Dover.
The new link is significantly faster than the old 4800 baud analogue line, and is based on a direct digital line to the Dover Harbour Board (DHB) for companies within Lord Warden House, where Frans Maas are based, and on a Virtual Private Network (VPN) for other locations.
So far, the new link has proved to be both reliable and quick, so we will be upgrading all of our other Dover customers within the next few weeks.
Chris Head, our local Area Account Manager, and Graham Kirby, one of our Support Staff, implemented the new link on Wednesday 23rd February, which after a few teething troubles was successfully completed the same day.
The staff at Frans Maas in Dover are particularly impressed with the speed of transmissions for both the Advanced Cargo Advice (ACA) and their Import and Export Entries, and also that of the HCI screen, which is available on each workstation.
Because Frans Maas runs our Customs Manager software on a centralised Terminal Server at their head office in Great Yarmouth, it means that any of their UK offices can process Dover Entries, although these are done by the Dover staff who operate on a 24/7 basis.
Ian Westgarth, the Dover Manager at Frans Maas, was understandably concerned when Customs Manager replaced their LSI/Sigma Datafreight system, but now that the staff have got used to the software, they find it more comprehensive than Datafreight.
